Fraternity

Koos Barloos

At the General Members’ Meeting (ALV) on October 26, 2016, the first fraternity (dispuut) of the Haagse Studenten Roeivereniging Pelargos became a reality. Koos Barloos was officially established with the approval of the ALV. The men’s dispute has a vibrant history, as it has been meeting as a rowing team since 2014, steadily every Monday. During this time, the members of Koos Barloos have gotten to know each other well through organizing group outings, sports activities, and association events. For example, they participated in a student hockey tournament, organized an auction for the Hofvijver Regatta, and cooked for the entire association. In short, camaraderie is highly valued.

In the coming years, the dispute will recruit new members and work towards fostering brotherhood among its members, not just within the dispute, but also within the association. Furthermore, Koos Barloos will use its experience to critically examine developments within the association and, where necessary, present its vision. It is also our goal to pass on knowledge to new members, particularly in terms of the culture within the association.

All of this will be done under the credo:
‘Bibimus ergo esse’.

Batje IV

What started as a rowing team has grown into the first female dispuut within H.S.R.V. Pelargos: Batje IV. Since its founding on November 30, 2016, Batje IV has welcomed new members every year. The dispuut is growing and connects different year groups with one another.

Every Tuesday evening, the entire dispuut gathers to have dinner together (and drink red wine). Additionally, we go on an annual weekend trip as a dispuut.

Batje IV offers much more than just social events; we are also extremely dedicated when it comes to rowing. Many of our members have competed in rowing races or are still actively involved in them. We are very proud of this. This brings us to the goals we have as a dispuut. Some of our goals include: promoting rowing-related activities among senior members, connecting different year groups and teams, and strengthening the sense of community within the club.

To achieve these goals, Batje IV organizes various activities that have become essential within the club. For example, in the summer, we host the Batje IV Skiff Days, where we teach you how to scull. In January, we take the whole club to an ADO Den Haag football match, and don’t forget the iconic Batje IV snack!

An important milestone for us took place on January 24, 2024, when the deed was signed to become a legal entity. With this, Batje IV hopes to grow even further in the coming years and add even more meaning to H.S.R.V. Pelargos.

Heimdall

On August 2, 2022, the idea was born at Zuiderstrand to transform a social club into a fully-fledged entity of Pelargos. After formulating our objectives, membership structure, and a year and a half of hard work, Heimdall became the first mixed dispuut of H.S.R.V. Pelargos on December 20, 2023.

Heimdall aims to make the club better by being a place where members can find each other, develop themselves, and form lifelong bonds. Heimdall stands for inclusivity and is committed to social safety; no one is excluded from participation from the outset. Within the club, Heimdall members have made their presence known by organizing various activities aligned with our objectives, such as a ping-pong tournament and a Eurovision watch party. Additionally, the values of Heimdall are visible weekly on the raft, where the Intersex Progress Pride flag flies for all of The Hague to see—an embodiment of the fraternity’s tolerance and openness.

Tuesday evenings are the time of the week for Heimdall members to come together and create memories over a glass of rosé (or another drink). Heimdall is a purple dream that is only one and a half years old, but in the coming years, we hope to grow and become an inseparable part of Pelargos.
